I’ve whined lamented before, several times, in this very space about how hard it is to find pants that fit. Seems I’m not the only one – a good pants rant can be found over here at Ugly Green Chair. Doesn’t solve the pants problem, but it’s nice to know that I’m in such good company!
However, I may have discovered the secret to finding pants that fit: set out to buy tops instead. When you do this, you will find, of course, not a single top, but as you’re leaving the store your eye will be drawn to a pants display. You will be skeptical, of course, and you will be telling yourself that you aren’t shopping for pants, you’re shopping for tops, and besides, pants never fit anyway. But the $15 price tag will encourage you to try them on. And they will fit. Really, really well.
That was the story behind these capri jeans from Target, which are now my absolute favorite thing in my closet. At $15, of course the store only had one in my size, but I am now anxiously awaiting snail-mail delivery of more, not just in denim but in black and stone too.

Of all places, Target really seems to be getting it right these days. True, it’s hit or miss, but lately the hits are in the lead. Waistbands aren’t too low, inseams are the right length, fabrics are just right. I mean – dark denim! With no muffin top! And no plumber’s butt!
And the capri length is actually capri length. Even on shorty me.

omg! that’s the first picture of those kind of shoes that I see and say, “AHA! I could do that!”
Target here, in relatively rural western MA, is very hit or miss. Lately it’s been misses. I’m heading down to the ‘big city’ of Holyoke MA to see if that Target in the mall is any better. And maybe I’ll pick up a pair of those shoes!

I have plans to go to Target tonight, and I think I’ll have to take a spin through the clothing section. And I’m going to tell myself I’m looking for tops.

If I knew what size would fit me, I’d be asking you to send pants! Because I want to wear those cute capris every day.

I need some of those pants!

Oh, the quest for good pants! I’ve been on the hunt for some casual, but not-too-casual, pants, and I cannot find any for the life of me. Or the ones that are decent don’t fit. When did clothing manufacturers and designers forget that women actually have hips and butts?
Tar-jay rocks…unless they don’t have all of the Isaac Mizrahi stuff. Then they don’t rock as hard.

Thanks! These are absolutely wonderful. Online shoppers, please note: these pants run really, really big. Because of the stretch, and the generous sizing, I had to go down 2 sizes before finding a pair that fit.(And then, hoping against hope that maybe I’d miraculously woken up thin, I tried on a different style of Merona capris and needed a size *bigger* than usual. So, no miracle–just wildly inconsistent sizing!)

Thanks for the tip! I just sort of got a pair of these today — I’ve been looking for capri jeans since last summer.
I say “sort of” because I grabbed the first cropped cuffed jeans that I saw, which were in the junior’s department. I don’t think I spotted the regular ones. Who cares though, they fit great and I was on the lookout because you pointed those out to us.
