While most of the blogs I read are hosted by Typepad, a few are Blogspot sites. And lately I’ve noticed that I can’t visit some of y’all without getting a TON of Flash-animation pop-up ads, despite the ad-blocking capabilities of my browser.

So I did a quick search and came up with this article.  If you hate this stuff as much as I do, read it and then go get yourself some good anti-spyware software, because, well – you’ve got some spyware on your computer, whether you know it or not.

Oh yeah, and switch to Typepad.*

If that’s not an option – a few suggestions for the future:

  1. Never click "yes" or "accept" when you get a popup window that you didn’t expect. Close the window by clicking the X in the top-right corner (PC) or the red dot if you’re a Mac person.
  2. If you get a "phishing" email from a service that you use – Ebay, Paypal, Gmail, and so forth – asking to verify your information, just delete the thing. Trust nobody, I’m telling you!
  3. Use Firefox as your browser. Take advantage of its "block popups from this site" feature. It’s not foolproof, but every little bit helps.
  4. Did I say "trust nobody" already? Oh yeah, I did. Well, I meant it.

If you’re hosted by Blogspot and have no idea if you’re one of the afflicted, email me or leave me a comment. I don’t want to out you publicly, but I *do* want to help you fight spam and malware!

*This is not a paid
endorsement. My love of Typepad is never-ending, and I will probably continue to sing its praises for a long, long time.
